Into the light

Into the light Sometimes a place is so beautiful that it entrances you. As a photographer I have a number of these places that I go to - sometimes just to stand and stare in wonder at the awesome magnitude of the scene, sometimes to try to add to the splendour that already exists and sometimes to capture the scene to share with others. This place is about 2 miles from where I live. It is never the same. The tide and light are ever changing and it is a privilege to spend time here. This photograph was taken in March this year during the intensely stormy weather. The tide was so high that it was washing over the pier and I had to be careful with my equipment that it didn't get washed away. The light to the left is sunrise. However, I felt that a high contrast black and white image had more potential. There were some amazing colours in the sky but I prefer to bring most of my images to light in mono. There is no place to hide in monochrome images and I feel it is a very pure form of photography. (I love colour too but I will always think mono first). I decided to go for a long exposure to capture the calmness that I felt on this stormy morning. This is La Rocque. ...
